Some people watch the news 2, 3 or 4 times per day. The news is filled with a lot of negative stuff, like death, disasters, accidents, crimes and catastrophes, too name a few. Your mind operates on primarily what you feed it. If you put negative information and bad news into your mind it will be much harder to maintain a positive outlook on life along with a positive energetic attitude.
A suggestion is to swap out a few of these times watching the news with listening to motivational audio program's like Earl Nightingale's Lead the Field and educational You Tube videos like School of Greatness by Lewis Howes. Oh my goodness, what a difference it makes, you will find yourself with more energy and more ambition to do the things in life that mean the most.
I realize the news is important and it's good to stay on top of certain events. One suggestion is limiting it to 30 minutes per day, like noon to 12:30 pm. If any major events are happening, you'll hear about it then. This way you don't start your day with it, which could effect your mood and attitude. And you don't end the day with it, which could effect your sleep.

The benefits are outstanding and I think I will call it the Vitality Vegetable. These veggies now play a major role if my food plan and my client's plan. Here are a few examples where to fit them in and I bet you can think of many more.

You can read 1000 books on nutrition and you will be hard pressed to find any that say eating veggies are bad for you. They are the one constant in all the nutrition books I have read complimenting all their benefits. From curing diseases to supporting brain function, it's all their. Three servings per day minimum is absolutely valuable for a life filled with vitality and enjoyment.
My favorites: red peppers, carrots, spinach and broccoli. What are your favorites?
You have heard it thousands of times to eat your fruits and vegetables and in today's world where it is so important to keep your immune system strong, healthy and operating at peak efficiency it only makes sense to get in 2 to 3 serving per day.
My favorites: bananas, apples, blueberries and cantaloupe. What are your favorites, send me a message, I'd love to know.
I started this daily habit during the pandemic. Watching and hearing about all the people who have had their lives dismantled by this world wide disease can bring you down.
After I shut my alarm off, I sit on the edge of my bed and take 5 minutes to perform this ritual. I think of 5 thing that I am truly grateful for and then I send out 5 prayers to individuals or groups of people. For example, doctors and nurses almost always get a prayer.
When you start your day with gratitude and prayer you are setting your mind up for a fantastic day. This 5 minute investment pays tremendous dividends.
One of the most common flaws I see in a person's nutrition plan is going for long periods of time without eating. I first discovered the solution to this opportunity years ago when I worked in the engineering / manufacturing world. I would have a nutritious breakfast around 6 am and then not eat again till lunch at noon. I was starving, made bad choices and ate too much.
The solution was adding a 300 calorie protein bar at 10 am. I then made good choices and did not eat too much. Nowadays it is an apple and around 20 almonds that works great and provides excellent nutrition.
4 pm is the other time slot that is important. A nutritious snack or small meal at this time helps you make better choices for dinner. Any piece of fruit will work and other nuts like cashews or walnuts are great. If you are allergic to nuts, rice cakes are a very good alternative.
The big take away here is, if you find yourself waiting till you are starving to eat, that is your opportunity. An additional bonus you get by adding the snack is your mood and energy level will be much better. Have you ever seen someone become irritable because they are starving? Be happy and eat your healthy snacks.
Over 1 million people get hurt each year from a slip or fall and have to go to the emergency room. Many of these falls result in serious life altering conditions.
Working on your balance daily can reduce the risk of these falls. It will also maintain or improve your agility so you can keep doing the activities you enjoy.
Try brushing your teeth on one leg, 30 seconds on each leg for a test, see how you do. Then add balance to your workout, pick an exercise like a shoulder press or bicep curl and do 10 reps on each leg.
Another great addition to your fitness program is to stretch your quadriceps on one leg. This is best after your cardio session or after training legs. You can use something to hold onto to get into position. Bend one leg, grab your other foot, stand nice and tall, engage the core, pull that heel into your glute, release the other hand. Balance and stretch for 30 to 60 seconds on each side.
Working your balance is training your neuromuscular system. You have to send many messages to different muscles in the body. Working your neuromuscular system keeps you sharp and active for many years.
